In this episode, a force of pure demons is on the hunt for any half-breed demons. The Scourge, as they're called, kill one man as a demonstration for their new ultimate weapon: a beacon of light that would destroy anything with human blood. As the Scourge was about to destroy a group of Lister demons with the beacon, Angel realized that the only way to jump on the light and unplug it before it detonates. Doyle wouldn't let Angel do it, because it would be suicide, so instead he volunteered himself. He first kissed Cordelia, passing his visions on to her. He then jumped on the light and just before he was killed, he managed to unplug the light and save everyone else.

Doyle was a great loss to his friends and to society, which he fought for. He did give up his life for a good cause though, and he will forever be remembered for his heroic action. He was a valuable contribution to Angel Investigations, standing by Angel through his battles. As it's been revealed throughout the episodes, Doyle was a kind, gentle, man who developed a fixation with drinking and gambling when he separated from his wife. He was married for a while to a woman named Harry, but they divorced when Harry wanted to marry another demon/man. Doyle was portrayed by Glenn Quinn. He will be missed.
