In this section, for each episode, I detail what characters got killed and how. A body count is provided for each episode. In almost all cases, only the deaths that we see count. There are a couple instances where it was very clear that something was killed even though we didn't actually see it happen.
Judgment
Demon Body Count: 3
In the beginning of the episode, Angel, Cordelia and Wesley crashed in on a praetorian sacrifice and killed the Carnyss demon performing it. The ritual involved sacrificing adolescence, but Angel was able to save them all and kill the demon. After a vision from Cordelia, Angel was sent on a path to destroy a Prio Motu demon. Despite being traditionally bred to kill and destroy, this particular Prio demon was good. He was protecting a woman carrying a very special child. After Angel killed the demon and realized his error, he took on the job of protecting the woman. It lead to a fight to the death before the Tribunal. Angel fought in a jousting match, followed by a sword fight which eventually lead to the death of his opponent when Angel chopped off the demon warrior's head.
Are You Now or Have You Ever Been
Demon Body Count: 1
Human Body Count: 2
Towards the beginning of the episode, we witnessed a salesman, portrayed by David Kagen, having a conversation with someone we couldn't see. Later, in his hotel room, the salesman continued a conversation with whispers coming from the walls before he shot himself. Feeling guilty about the little help he provided the hotel in the 1950's, Angel returned to the Hyperion hotel to raise a demon and destroy it. The demon, a Thesulac, was raised with the help of Angel's friends. It was killed when Angel attached one of the demon's many tentacles to an electric box. Later, Angel went upstairs to room 214, where he found a very old woman. The Thesulac had trapped Judy Kovacs, whom Angel tried to help nearly 50 years earlier, in the hotel for years. The voices gone, Judy was finally free. She asked for Angel's forgiveness and once she got it, she was able to die peacefully. Young Judy was portrayed by Melissa Marsala and Older Judy was played by Eve Sigall.
First Impressions
Demon Body Count: 1
Vampire Body Count: 4
Although it took quite a bit of effort, Angel and gang fight with and eventually dust 3 vampires towards the beginning of the episode. The three vampires were lackeys of the demon, Deevak. There were other vampire encounters throughout the episode and vampires were presumably killed, but we never saw it. Finally, in a battle between the good guys (Angel and crew) and Deevak and his vampire minions, we saw one more vampire slain. Moments later, just as Deevak was about to kill Gunn, Angel imbedded the blade of an ax into Deevak's head, successfully killing him. Deevak was portrayed by Alan Shaw.
Untouched
Human Body Count: 2
In this episode, the main villain wasn't entirely a villain as her powers were unwanted and not entirely under her control. Bethany Chaulk was abused as a child and developed the power of telekinesis. When two men were hired to try and rape Bethany, they were encountered with more than they expected. Bethany sent a giant two-ton dumpster moving across an alley, smashing the men into the wall. One of the men died on the scene while the other was taken to the hospital. Later in the episode, Angel and Gunn broke into the apartment of man still hanging onto life. The barrier keeping Angel out broke suddenly, signifying that the second of the two men had died as well.
Dear Boy
Human Body Count: 3
Demon Body Count: 1
A vision sends Angel and friends to an underground location that once was Saint Bridges convent. There, a Thrall demon by the name of Turfog is controlling a group of men and making them fight each other to the death. Gunn puts an ax through the demon's head, killing it and stopping the fighting. In a flashback, Angelus stumbles up on Darla in the streets. She has killed a man, Lord Nichols, and the streetwalker he was with. In the present, Darla is human now and pretends to live a normal life in order to throw Angel off his game. In a plan to get Angel arrested, an actor who has been playing Darla's husband, Stephen, is killed and Angel is framed for it. The actor was portrayed by Matt North.
Guise Will Be Guise
There was plenty of fighting and fun Angel moments, but no one was killed in this episode that we saw.
Darla
Human Body Count: 3
In 1609, a human Darla is on her deathbed, but she receives a visit from the Master and is made a vampire. Later, in another flashback we see a sailor that Drusilla has killed. There are many others presumed dead throughout the episode, but the only other death we see is in 1898. After Angelus was cursed with a soul, Darla begged with the Gypsy man who cursed him for her Angelus in exchange for the safety of his family. Spike, unknowingly has already killed the family and Darla then snaps the man's neck in frustration. For information on the villains of the episode, visit the Villains section.
The Shroud of Rahmon
Human Body Count: 1
Demon Body Count: 1
After the crew breaks into vault and begins the slow process of removing the tomb from the building, the shroud begins to affect them all. Their behavior altered, their focus disturbed, and they drop the tomb. After tying Bob up as part of their plan, Vyasa rips the human's head off. Later, after the tomb has been brought to their hideout, Angel, Gunn, Menlo, and Vyasa fight over the shroud. While Menlo is knocked down, he manages to get up long enough to shoot Vyasa in the head. The Trial
Human Body Count: 1
Vampire Body Count: 1
Darla receives the news that she is dying from the same disease she was dying from when she was first a human, Syphilis. She was given months at most to live and went out to find someone, anyone who save her. She confronted a young vampire and asked him to make her a vampire. Darla attempted to talk the inexperienced vampire through the process of making her a vampire, but Angel staked him before he could bite. Angel later put his life on the line to save Darla by going through three deadly trials to prove his will to die for her. Unfortunately, because Darla was already living her second chance at life, the trials were a waste of time. Later, after Darla finally accepted she would die as a human, Drusilla returns. While Angel is restrained, Darla is made into a vampire again.
Reunion
Human Body Count: 4
Once Darla has awakened to her renewed life as a vampire, she's not entirely happy. She fights with Drusilla, but the two quickly make up. A man doesn't appreciate that the two are blocking the road and after he confronts the girls, Darla bites him. Later, the girls go shopping for new clothes and kill both of the sales girls. Finally, with their new wardrobes, the vampires decide to crash a wine tasting party at Holland Manner's house. About a dozen lawyers are locked in a wine cellar with Darla and Dru and Holland is bitten by Darla. The burly man was played by Michael Rotondi and Holland was portrayed by Sam Anderson. Redefinition
Vampire Body Count: 4
Demon Body Count: 1
As a part of his mission to become a one-man fighting machine, he trains himself to fight without remorse or feeling. In the sewers, Angel slays four unsuspecting vampires. Three are staked while the last, the leader, is beheaded with a sword. All desperate to know their future, with or without Angel, the Bat Pack all appears at Caritas. After getting completely wasted, Cordelia gets a vision that sends them all rushing to save a woman from a large demon with long teeth. Despite Wesley getting bitten on the shoulder, the group is able to kill the demon with a stake to the head and save the woman. There are two large groups, the lawyers and prospective demon soldiers that are revealed to be dead in this episode, but neither were killed on screen and an accurate count could not be determined. For more information on the villain of this particular episode, visit the Villains section.
Blood Money
Demon Body Count: 2
Cordelia gets a vision about a fire-emitting demon crouching in a twenty-foot high sewer tunnel below a girls school. Wesley and Gunn kill the demon brutally off-screen, but explain the details to Cordelia later. In the end of the episode, Boone shows up at the hotel with the money he stole from the fund-raiser. He places that as a bet for a fight with Angel--a fight to see which of them is the better. Although we don't see Boone die, Angel presents the bag of money and jewels to Anne at the shelter and based on Boone's sense of honor, it is concluded that he would not just accept Angel as the victor, he would have to be killed. Happy Anniversary
Demon Body Count: 2
With Angel gone, Wesley, Cordelia, and Gunn, keep Angel Investigations alive. Virginia Bryce brings Wesley and friends their first case. A rich family is being bothered by a demon that has already killed one member of the family. Gunn kills the demon with his ax, but Wesley finds that the demon was not working alone. Angel meanwhile works to stop time from ending by fighting off several Lubber demons that try to stand in his way. There are several fights with the Lubber demons, but it is only clear that one is killed when Angel stabs it with a small scythe. Read more about the Villains of this episode.
The Thin Dead Line
Other Body Count: 1
Human Body Count: 1
A cop who spotted Angel lurking outside Anne's shelter accuses Angel of being a criminal when he was doing nothing wrong. Angel fights him, but the cop just won't stay down and finally Angel kicks his head completely off. The head continues talking for a moment while the body regains its more appropriately dead appearance. While trying to rush a wounded Wesley to a hospital in an ambulance, zombie cops fatally shot the EMT who was driving. Angel approaches the police captain controlling the zombie cops and seeks to stop the cops. Angel destroys an idle, ending the control over the bodies. There were other zombie cops that returned to their normal dead selves, but there was no way to tell the number. Read more about the Villains of this episode.
Reprise
Demon Body Count: 1
Human Body Count: 2
Angel continues his mission to defeat Wolfram and Hart and the vampires they have working for them. When he gets word that Wolfram and Hart is having a 75-year review with the visit of a Senior Partner from Hell, he is willing to sacrifice his own life. He returns to the bookstore he visited back in the 1950's and the same clerk, Denver, is there. After providing Angel with a Glove of Minnigon, Darla appears and impales Angel and Denver on a sword, killing Denver. Later, Angel kills the Senior Partner, a Kleynach demon with the help of the Glove. Elsewhere, Mrs. Sharp, a client of the remaining Angel Investigations is killed by a Skilosh demon after she lures Cordelia to her home with a phone call. For information on the villains of this episode, visit the Villains section.
Epiphany
Demon Body Count: 2
While it is suspected that more Skilosh demons were killed, only two were killed on camera. During an attack at Wesley's apartment, Angel takes on one demon while Wesley takes the other. Angel uses an ax to kill one of the demons while Wesley shoots the other with a powerful riffle. For information on the villains of this episode, visit the Villains section.
Disharmony
Vampire Body Count: 5
An old friend of Cordelia's from high school, Harmony, who is now a vampire, comes to LA. Cordelia doesn't catch on to Harmony's vampireness until a phone call from Willow in Sunnydale clues her in. Harmony is looking for her mission and while trying to be good for most of the episode, she eventually finds that being evil is what she was meant for. A vampire motivational speaker, Doug Sanders, lures vampires into his pyramid scheme for producing more vampires. Harmony initially helps Angel Investigations try to stop Doug, but instead joins him. In a final battle for the episode, four of Doug's followers are staked and Angel beheads Doug. For information on the villains of this episode, visit the Villains section.
Dead End
Human Body Count: 2
There were probably several more deaths associated with this episode, but only one was confirmed on screen. Nathan Reed of Wolfram and Hart arranged for Lindsey to get a new hand, one that once belonged to a convicted criminal, Bradley Scott (Steven DeRelian). Lindsey didn't realize it at first, but with some unasked for research help from Angel, it was determined that Fairfield Clinic, funded by Wolfram and Hart, was using live humans to harvest body parts when needed. Lindsey and Angel found the location where the bodies were kept and when the remains of Bradley Scott, kept alive by life support begged for death, Lindsey reluctantly pulled the plug. In the beginning of the episode, we saw a man stab himself in the eye with a large kitchen knife. It was never confirmed that he was killed, but it was pretty much implied. For information on the villains of this episode, visit the Villains section.
Belonging
Human Body Count: 3
Demon Body Count: 1
George and Rondell, friends of Gunn asked for Gunn's help in dealing with a vampire infestation problem in their neighborhood. Gunn was willing to help, but had to work for Angel Investigations first. George and Rondell didn't wait for Gunn to show up, which resulted in George being bitten by a vampire. Through a portal to another dimension, a man-eating Drokken demon was introduced into L.A. Hungry the demon attacked two men on the street as they left a club. While it's not completely sure that these men died, based on the fact that they were being eaten alive and a graphic confirmation of that was really not necessary, I'm going to assume they were both killed. The Drokken demon and the woman in its possession ended up in an old warehouse building with Angel and crew right behind. The Drokken eventually met its end when Angel stabbed it through the neck with a large sword. For information on the villains of this episode, visit the Villains section.
Over the Rainbow
Demon Body Count: 1
Cordelia ends up sucked into another dimension, Pylea. After she is sold into slavery, as all humans are in this world, she begins working for her new owner. In the market, she gets a vision about a villager being attacked by a Drokken demon. All the other villagers are too caught up in Cordelia's "curse" to care, and it's later confirmed that the villager was killed. For information on the villains of this episode, visit the Villains section.
Through the Looking Glass
Demon Body Count: 1
There are a lot of things that change while in Pylea, vampires being one of those things. Angel's human and demon sides are both enhanced individually. When Angel and a young woman, Fred are attacked by guards, Angel turns to his demon, only to find that the demon takes complete control. He viciously attacks one of the guards, eating the man alive. In the finale, we are told that both guards were attacked, but we only saw one. For information on the villains of this episode, visit the Villains section.
There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb
Demon Body Count: 1
Human Body Count: 1
Although Cordelia discovered that the severed head of the Host didn't actually mean his death, her initial shock and screams attracted the attention of two slaves. One of them, Markalla (Alex Nesic), reported back to Silas on the Princess's reaction to the head. After determining that Markalla was spreading word of his new cow-destroying device to other slaves, Silas blew up the slave's head. Later, furious about riots outside the palace, Silas (Michael Phenicie) went to take out his aggressions on Cordelia. He hit her and threw her down, then just as Wesley and Gunn arrived, Cordelia recovered and used a sword to chop of Silas's head. There were plenty of battles in this episode with probably many deaths, but I was unable to confirm how many actually died in the battles.
