In this section, for each episode, I detail which characters were the villains of the episodes. Most of the villains had major roles for at least one of the episodes, and were clearly villains.

City Of

Wolfram & Hart
The less-than-normal law firm was introduced in this episode. Wolfram and Hart's lawyers represent the demonic and evil. Vampires, demons, or even humans doing something evil could find representation by this law firm. They've become Angel's biggest challenge to face, although Angel was able to out-smart them for all of the first season. He proved to be a very difficult vampire to run out of town or to kill. Lindsey McDonald, Lilah Morgan and Lee Mercer are the three main lawyers that stand in Angel's way. Lindsey showed shreds of his humanity in "Blind Date", while Lee was murdered in same episode for conspiring with another law firm. With guidance from one of their superiors, Holland, Lilah and Lindsey make it their mission to protect the evil and destroy Angel. For more information on the lawyers, check out the Wolfram and Hart section.

Russell Winters
Russell Winters, the conniving vampire preying on young starlets, was portrayed by Vyto Ruginis. He offered young women, desperate for fame, the opportunity for anything they wanted. Of course, it came at a price. He killed one woman, Tina, and by the end of the episode nearly took Cordelia as a victim as well. Fortunately in the end, Angel saved Cordelia and killed Russell by pushing him out the window of a building during the day.

Lonely Hearts

Tahlmer
Tahlmer was a parasite of disgusting proportions that transferred itself from one body to another, usually after the two bodies were intimate. The demon continued to move from body to body, in search of the perfect home. However, when the demon left a body, that person was killed. A body that appeared to be eviscerated was left behind. Tahlmer would generally take the personality of it's host and turn them into a self-confident and attractive person that would easily attract someone of the opposite sex. The demon was finally destroyed at the end of this episode, and the last host was burned alive.

In the Dark

Lenny
A young woman named Rachel asked Angel to help protect her from her dangerous boyfriend, Lenny. Lenny, a drug-using abusive man, came close to killing Rachel in an abandoned alleyway, but Angel was there to the rescue. He knocked Lenny out and took Rachel away to safety. Lenny was put away in jail but released soon after. Angel told Rachel to seek help from a shelter, but she was very reluctant. After Angel's discussion with Rachel, there was no more mention of Lenny. Michael Yayweli was the actor that played Lenny.

Spike
Spike, a vampire that Angel knows far too well, arrived in LA for this episode. Played by James Marsters, Spike is a regular on the series Buffy. When Angel was evil, he was Spike's grandsire and mentor. However, whenever Angel has his soul, the two aren't the best of friends. In this episode, Spike followed Oz down to LA in hopes of getting the "Gem of Amarra." The ring, which Spike, of course, wanted, allows the wearer to be impervious to harm. Spike hired Marcus (see below) to torture Angel until he gave up the location of the ring. In the end though, Angel was saved, Spike was defeated and the Gem of Amarra was destroyed.

Marcus
Marcus, an expert in torture, was hired by Spike, aka William the Bloody, to capture Angel, torture him, and find the location of the Gem of Amarra. Marcus was played by Kevin West. Also a vampire, Marcus was very much willing to do the job, but Spike didn't realize that he also would have liked the ring for himself. It was later discovered that Marcus had a sick affection for young children and once the ring was in his possession, there was even more urgency to get the ring away from him. Marcus was staked and the ring was taken back by Angel.

I Fall to Pieces

Ronald Miltzer
Dr. Ronald Miltzer, played by Andy Umberger, was by-far one of the creepiest villains Angel has produced so far. A specialist in various fields of medicine, this doctor took medicine to a whole new level. His advanced knowledge of ocular surgery and reconstructive surgery mixed with his psychotic desires made him a truly frightening human being. In the episode of "I Fall To Pieces", Ronald focused his attention on a former female patient of his, Melissa Burns. After one drink together, Ronald became obsessed with her. His unusual talents allowed him to disconnect various body parts, such as his hands, to crawl into her bedroom, or his eyes, to watch her every move without the rest of him having to be near her. View the Deceased section for information on how Ronald was killed.

Wolfram and Hart
The law firm represents Ronald in court.

Rm W/ A Vu

Griff
Doyle got a bit behind on repaying people he owed money. Griff, a Kaliff demon was sent to collect the money that Doyle owed. Doyle escaped from Griff the first time, but Angel figured something was up when he discovered a bruise on Doyle's hand. Angel met up with Griff and worked out a deal for Doyle to repay his debts and keep his life. However, Griff still came after Doyle with a couple of friends, intending to kill him. One of the three guys ran away when he saw the strange activities going on in Cordelia's haunted appartment. The two remaining guys, Griff, and another Kaliff demon were killed. Griff was portrayed by Markus Redmond. For more information on her character, visit the Deceased section.

Maude Pearson
Maude Pearson was a ghost that haunted a beautiful apartment into which Cordelia moved. Maude Pearson was portrayed by actress Beth Grant. She didn't like her son's fiancee and was afraid her son would leave her. In order to punish him, she killed her son Dennis by burying him in the wall of her apartment. She died of a heart attack moments later. Maude believed that every female that moved in was her son's fiancee and killed them all, making it look like a suicide. In the end, Cordelia confronted the spirit, and exposed Dennis's skeleton buried in the wall. For more information on her character, visit the Deceased section.

Sense and Sensitivity

Tony Papazian
Tony Papazian, with the street name of Little Tony, was a thug on the streets that the police believe is responsible for the death of a County Supervisor. He was portrayed by actor John Capodice. Detective Kate Lockley has been heading the case looking for him and finally resorted to asking Angel for help. Once Tony was in custody, his lawyer, Lee Mercer, made it very difficult for any progress to be made. After Wolfram and Hart bring in Allen Lloyd (below) to stir things up, Tony was released from his cell (a police officer felt guilty about people being locked up) and tried to kill Kate Lockley. In the end, Wolfram and Hart drop Little Tony as one of their clients, and he is left on his own.

Allen Lloyd
Allen, a sensitivity trainer, was brought into this episode to help the Los Angeles police. Allen Lloyd was portrayed by Ron Marasco. The officers were forced to take sensitivity classes after Kate's harsh behavior dealing with Little Tony. Passing a "talking stick" around the room of officers, Allen made the entire precinct a whole lot more sensitive to everything and hindered their abilities to do their job. It's later discovered that Wolfram and Hart is responsible for Allen's sensitivity work.

The Bachelor Party

Richard Straley
Doyle's estranged wife, Harry, made an appearance with her possible future husband, Richard Straley. Richard is played by Carlos Jacott. She wanted a divorce from Doyle so that she could marry Richard, who happened to be an Ano-Movic demon. The Ano-Movic demons were friendly demons with mostly good intentions. Richard befriended Doyle and invited him to the bachelor party. However, an ancient Ano-Movic tradition required the future husband to eat the brains of the ex-husband. In the end, Harry, Angel and Cordelia intervene. Doyle's life is spared and the wedding is off.

I Will Remember You

Mohra demon
The Mohra demon was a very crucial element in this episode. In the beginning, the demon attacked Angel and Buffy (she was visiting) at his office. When he escaped, Buffy and Angel went to find him in the sewers and Angel later killed it. When the blood of this demon came in contact with Angel, its regenerative powers made Angel human. More demons rose when Angel killed the one and Angel later tracked them down at a salt mine. The Mohra demon, which needs salt to survive, was killed when the jewel in its forehead was destroyed. Stunt man David Wald portrayed the role of the Mohra Demon. See the Deceased section for more information, including how the demon was killed in this episode.

Hero

The Scourge
The Scourge were a Nazi-like group of pure demons looking to rid the world of half-breeds. A group of Lister half-bred demons got into their way and became their prime target. Being half-demon, Doyle knows all about the Scourge and has witnessed the carnage they are capable of. Angel, Doyle and Cordelia fight to get the Lister clan out of the country and save them from the Scourge. They plan to use a beacon light that will destroy any being with human blood. In the final battle, Doyle gives his life to destroy the light and save the Lister clan. To find out more about the characters that died in this episode, visit the Deceased pages.

Parting Gifts

Barney
Barney, an Empath demon, went to Angel for help in this episode. Barney was played by Maury Sterling. As an Empath demon, he could read people's emotions and he claimed that someone was hunting him because of that. It turns out that Barney had been hunting demons and taking away the part of them that is "unique." Wesley, who had been following that trail of bodies, thought that a Kailiff demon was responsible. Barney captured Cordelia after he found out about her visions. He's was an auctioneer who auctioned the "unique" gifts that humans and demons have to people who wanted them. For more information check out the Deceased section for more on this character.

Wolfram and Hart
A lawyer from Wolfram and Hart bought Cordelia's "eyes" for $30,000. She didn't get them, as Angel and Wesley rescue their friend first. The female lawyer, Mac, was portrayed by Dominique Jennings.

Somnambulist

Penn
Penn was a vampire that Angel made two hundred years ago. He showed up in LA where he tried to reenact the murders that he committed in the past with Angel's guidance. He first cut a cross in his victim's cheek before draining them of their blood. Every night, Angel would have dreams of the murders Penn committed, and at first questioned if he was doing the killing himself. Angel and Penn had several confrontations finally ending when Detective Kate Lockley staked them both: Angel through the stomach, Penn through the heart. Jeremy Renner was the actor that played Penn. For more information check out the Deceased section for more on this character.

Expecting

Wilson Christopher & Friends
Granted, they weren't demons, but they were just as much villains as any. Wilson and his friends pretended to be sweet and wonderful guys, therby tricking Cordelia and other women into having sex with them. The next morning, the women woke up to discover they were eight months pregnant. Angel tracked them down and discovered that they had a deal with a Hacksaw demon; to impregnate women to produce more of the Hacksaw demon's babies. Ken Marino was Wilson.

Hacksaw Beast
The Hacksaw demon was "worshipped" by Wilson and his friends. In exchange for impregnating women for him, the Hacksaw demon gave the human men everything they could desire: fame, money and, of course, sex. The women that were carrying the demon babies gathered at Miliken Industrial Park where the demon was. The Hacksaw demon was a very large creature that was very hard to kill. It was finally slain, thanks to Angel and Wesley's creative thinking. The babies were destroyed without harming the mothers. For information on how the demon was killed, view the Deceased section. (The demon's name may actually be "Haxil," but the closed captioning reads "Hacksaw.")

She

Vigories of Oden Tal
The males of the Oden Tal species were known as Vigories. In Oden Tal, the women were slaves to the men and any that rebeled against that would be "unmade." Jheira, a princess of Oden Tal, was the first to escape the dimension. Later, she helped others of her kind escape from their home dimension. The Vigories, who have four ridges on their foreheads, had come to earth to find these women and unmake them. The female's Ko, a ridge on their back, controls their feelings and sexual desires. When the females are unmade and it is removed, they become docile and obedient. The leader, Tay, is especially after Jheira, but it is his responsibility to bring all the females back. In the end, Jheira got the females to a safe location and Angel told Tay to go back home. Colby French was Tay.

Jheira
Jheira, daughter to the king of Oden Tal, came to earth to escape from the ways of her home dimension. Movie actress Bai Ling was Jheira. In Oden Tal, the women fell slave to the males, or Vigories. The females have a Ko (ridges on the back of their neck) that controls their personality and sexual desires and once they reach a certain age, that Ko is removed so that they will remain obedient to the men. Jheira tried to help other females escape Oden Tal, but the Vigories also came to earth, trying to retrieve each of the females, unmake them and bring them back to Oden Tal. A fire under their skin burned them on the inside until they can learn to control it. While her intentions were not evil, she tried to hurt Angel several times and was willing to let Cordelia and Wesley die, if it meant that the Oden Tal females would survive.

I've Got You Under My Skin

Ryan Anderson
Cordelia got a vision that sent Angel to the home of a family in danger. After some investigating, they discover that someone in the house is possessed by an adult Ethros demon. Angel uses eucalyptus powder in the brownies he brought for dinner to determine that Ryan is the one possessed by a demon. Angel used a binding spell to ensure that the demon and Ryan are kept from harming anyone, while he searched for help to exorcise the demon from Ryan. After removing the demon from Ryan's body, they find that Ryan was actually more evil than the Ethros demon. The demon was trying to kill the boy so that he could be set free. The Anderson family went home but found themselves in even more trouble when Ryan locked his parents in their bedroom and then set the house on fire. Everyone did get out alive though, and Ryan is taken away by social services. Jesse James was Ryan Anderson.

Ethros Demon
The Ethros Demon was a very destructive demon that persuades the person it's possessing to do evil things. After the eucalyptus powder brings the demon to the fore, it was up to Angel to exorcise the demon from the body. A barrier is formed around Ryan on a bed while Ryan taunted everyone to try and get them to break the barrier. Angel performed an exorcism spell that would remove the Ethros demon from the boy, but it would kill the next person that the demon jumps into. Instead, Cordelia tried to get a Ethros box for the demon to jump into, but she doesn't get the right kind and the box broke when the demon jumped into it. Angel tracked the demon down and the Ethros demon tells him that the boy had no soul, and there was nothing inside of him to corrupt. The Ethros demon was played by Anthony Cistaro. For more information, visit the Deceased section.

The Prodigal

Kwaini Demons
Throughout this episode there were demons attacking and killing. At first, it seemed there was no reason for these naturally calm and docile female demons to hurt anyone, but it was later discovered that they had reason. Some of these Kwanini were on drugs, a demonic type of street PCP. They were only attacking because they were in search of more of the drug. Angel fought and killed one of the demons after it attacked a subway train; in search of a delivery man who had the drug. They later attacked Angel's office where Angel had a small amount of the drug. For more information on the demons and how they were killed, visit the Deceased section.

Head Demon Guy & Vampires
There was no actual name provided for the demon running a demonic drug operation, or for the vampires that did his bidding. The vampires worked out a deal with a retired cop, Trevor Lockley, for him to use his department connections to help them transport a drug, one used to turn kind demons into violent ones. The vampires worried that Trevor has spoken to his daughter and, before Angel could be invited inside, Trevor is killed. Angel killed one of the vampires but the other escaped. Searching for vengeance, Trevor's daughter, Kate, went after the vampires that killed her father and with Angel's assistance, they were all slain. Their demon leader also is killed. Mark Ginther was the Head Demon Guy.

The Ring

Darin and Jack Macnamara
In the beginning of this episode, Darin pretended that his brother Jack had been kidnapped and Angel's help is needed to find him. Instead, it was a trap to capture Angel, so that he could be used in an underground demon fight club. Each of the demons kept there had metal bracelets that would kill them if they tried to pass an invisible barrier. They were forced to fight, and win 21 fights before they could be set free. Angel tried to get Darin to let him and the others go free by holding Jack hostage, but instead Darin killed his brother, Jack. In the last fight, all the demons are set free from their bracelets and Darin is killed by a demon named Val Trepkos. Douglas Roberts was Darin and Scott William Winters was Jack. For more information on their deaths, visit the Deceased section.

Eternity

Oliver
Oliver was first introduced in the episode, "City Of." He's was an agent who took an interest in Angel when he spotted him at a party. In this episode, he represented an actress, Rebecca Lowell. Rebecca's one-time big career was in danger of complete failure so Oliver arranged for a stunt man to pretend to be Rebecca's stalker and get her name back in the press. Granted, this isn't the most villainous character, but his actions did cause harm. Oliver is portrayed by Michael Mantell.

Rebecca Lowell
Rebecca was once a well known actress who had a long-running role as Raven on the series On Your Own. Angel saved her from an oncoming car that was about to hit her. After that, she went to Angel and asked for his help in protecting her from a stalker trying to kill her. It turned out that the stalker wasn't a stalker at all, but part of a publicity stunt to try and revive her career. Once she found out that Angel was a vampire, she decided that she'd love to be young and beautiful forever. She slipped Angel Doxymall, a powerful tranquilizer, and he became Angelus again, temporarily. Former Hercules star, Tamara Gorski was Rebecca.

Angelus
After discovering that Angel was a vampire, Rebecca Lowell searched for a way to get Angel to make her a vampire. She put Doxymall, a strong drug that would stimulate "perfect happiness" in Angel's drink, and he became Angelus. He squirted blood in Rebecca's mouth, bit her, and chased her around while working up an appetite. As Rebecca escaped upstairs, Angelus cut the power and then confronted Rebecca, Wesley and Cordelia in the office. He talked down to Wesley, and made fun of Cordelia's acting. While Cordelia distracted him, Wesley pushed Angelus down the elevator shaft and he fell unconscious. After the drug wore off, Angel woke up to find himself chained to the bed. Wesley and Cordelia forgave him, but he remained chained to the bed.

Five by Five

Faith
After escaping from Sunnydale on a train, evil Slayer Faith went to LA and made herself comfortable in the city. Wolfram and Hart hired her to kill Angel, and she was more than willing to comply. Faith visited Angel at his office and shot him, promising that there would be more fun to follow. Faith kidnaped Wesley and tortured him, until Angel arrived to save his friend. After a spectacular fight inside and out, in the rain, Faith suddenly broke down. She admitted how much she hated what she had become and thought she deserved to be killed. Faith is portrayed by actress, Eliza Dushku.

Wolfram & Hart
Wolfram and Hart lawyers, Lee and Lilah, found out about Faith being in town and specifically where she was. They confront her about working for them and Faith is more than happy to agree.

Sanctuary

Wolfram and Hart
The lawyers from Wolfram and Hart determined that Faith was now working on the side of good. They sent a demon to kill Faith and Angel, but it was killed instead. As a last resort, they went to Kate Lockley at the police station to get her help in putting Angel away.

Watcher's Council Special Operations Team
Since Faith awoke from her coma, the Watcher's Council was out to bring Faith back to England with them. They asked Wesley, a former Watcher, for his help, in exchange for his return to the Council. Wesley pretended to work with them, but he warned Faith, Angel, and Buffy--who showed up unexpectantly in LA. With two slayers on the roof of Angel's building, a huge fight broke out. However, Faith turned herself into the police and the Council was left without any control over either Slayer. Alastar Ducan was Collins, Jeff Ricketts was Weatherby and Kevin Owens was Smith.

War Zone

Lenny Edwards
Lenny Edwards was a man who was blackmailing billionaire David Nabbit. David had a sick desire for demonic games. Lenny had pictures of him at a secret club, Madam Dorian's, where people could go to have their demonic needs serviced. David hired Angel Investigations to track down Lenny and get the pictures back. Angel used his own special way of persuasion to convince Lenny to hand the pictures over. Joe Basile was the actor that portrayed Lenny.

Knox
Knox was the leader of the vampire group that was fighting with Gunn and his gang of humans. He sent a group of vampires to capture Gunn's sister, Alonna, in the middle of the day. She was turned into a vampire. After Alonna had a confrontation with her brother, and Gunn was forced to kill her, the vampire gang and the human gang come face to face, with Angel as the mediator. Angel told the vampires to leave, but Knox refused to listen, and Angel staked him. Knox was played by Mick Murray.

Blind Date

Vanessa
Vanessa Brewer was a blind woman who purposely lost her sight at the age of 21. In Pajaur, she spent five years studying the Nanjin. She learned to see with her heart, not with her eyes. She has been on trial several times for murder (which she commited with her quick-moving actions and ability to anticipate a person's movements). While working for Wolfram and Hart, Vanessa went after three young children. Also blind and seers, these three children have the combined power to see inside the heart of things. Angel and Lindsey arrived before she could do anything to the children. Angel discovered that she could see things based on movement, so if he remained still, she couldn't see him. In the end, Angel killed her by stabbing her with her own walking stick. Buffy and Angel stunt woman, Jennifer Badger Martin, was Vanessa. She is also Cordelia's stunt double and was the first victim in the episode "Somnambulist."

To Shanshu in L.A.

Vocah
Vocah was a warrior of the underworld, brought forth by Wolfram and Hart to perform a Raising ritual. Upon finding that Angel was in possession of scrolls that contain the Prophecies of Aberjian, Vocah took things into his own hands. He opened Cordelia's mind to all of the people in need, giving her endless visions of their pain. After Angel left the apartment, Vocah took the scrolls and replaced them with a bomb that put Wesley into the hospital. Vocah began his the ritual at a cemetery, sacrificing 5 vampires to bring forth one. Angel crashed the party before Vocah could complete the ritual, and in the end, killed Vocah. Lindsey McDonald, however, completed the ritual and Darla, Angel's sire, was brought back to existence. Vocah was portrayed by Todd Stashwick. For more information on the deceased in this episode, check out the Deceased section.
